Trojan Time: Voting 101 Workshop: California Candidates

Trojan Time: Voting 101 Workshop: California Candidates In-Person

First time voting? Sign up for Voting 101 Workshops at the library to learn more about what's on the ballot and how to find reliable information.

Students can ask questions. No question is too basic!

In this workshop, students will learn about California Candidates on the General Election ballot. Using the Official Voter Information Guide sent to all California voters by the California Secretary of State and the non-partisan Vote411.org site provided by the League of Women Voters,  students will:

  • Identify local, state and federal seats up for election
  • Review local, state and federal government structures (assembly, senate, etc.) briefly, for context
  • Find candidate information, endorsements and campaign financing information
  • Learn to search for and evaluate news and information about a candidate

We will discuss tips and habits of becoming an informed and regular voter.

Students are encouraged to bring their Official Voter Information Guide if they have received one at home and their laptops. We also have at copy at the library and loaner laptops for in library use.

Seats are limited. Register by October 15.
